Aurora Aksnes' first musical memory involves finding a small piano in her basement and becoming enthralled by the sounds it created. Jan Oystein Aksnes' parents May Britt Aksnes advised her to use music for personal growth, rather than as a way of earning money or for an interest. Thus, she began writing her own songs. Her inspirations include famous writer Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan and her affinity with Bjork's style. After her mom told her that her songs can not only aid in her efforts to achieve fame however, they could also help others understand their importance to the world and appreciate what can be done with them and her music, she was inspired to start playing in front of the public. She was suggested by her mother to sing her songs in public so that people can see their importance and the ways they impact the world. It was not until she turned 14 that she revealed her plans to her parents. Aurora isn't something she imagined as a child. Her only passion is to compose music. Music is her most preferred way to feel anything.
